When surgeon Joseph Bruner went in to do surgery on 21 week old unborn baby named Samuel Alexander Armas, after he was diagnosed with Spina Bifida, he had no idea what was about to happen. During the procedure, the... doctor removed the uterus, via C-section, then he made a small incision in the mother’s womb so he could operate on little Samuel.
What happened next left everyone who witnessed it speechless…
…Little Samuel Alexander Armas, reached out of the small incision, and took hold of Dr. Bruner’s finger. For a moment, no one moved. They all just stared at this little hand grasping the Dr.’s finger. The doctor was later quoted saying, “it was the most emotional moment of my life.”
The picture was taken on August 19, 1999 by photographer Michael Clancy, who named the photo “Hand of Hope.” Samuel’s mother said after seeing the picture for the first time, she wept. Little Samuel was born in perfect health. The operation was 100% successful.
The Hand of Hope picture was printed in USA today on Sept. 7, 1999. It quickly spread across the globe as proof of development in the womb. It was even used to help pass the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act in 2000.
It is simply about a miracle. A 21 week old miracle.On RHS is little Samuel, growing up.
